Fierce
You kicked me down into the dirt - expecting me to bend the knee
Kingdoms fall and Kings they reign - only to be a memory
They hate me - No matter what I say
They chase me - Into a dark place
Welcome to the lions den - I told you we would meet again
You cant get by on how you bleed - For you are in - In the house of Fierce
The enemy is standing at the gates - Lonely warrior he stands and waits
Courage is frailty Bravery is known - For a heroes life is a lonely one
They curse me - No matter what I say
They stone me - As I lie at the gates
(repeat chorus)
Mortars burn and spires fall - A kings death is a legend born
A fight for mercy - A fight for grace - The sword is the light in the flame
(repeat chorus)

During the initial production of the track, I wanted to write a stadium anthem type of rock tune that is high energy and catchy. During the recording phase of the tune, I debated on whether to continue with this tune, or use another that I had written in the process. I was quickly swayed by my friend and colleague Mike Alvis to pursue “Fierce.” The tune came together nicely with input from Mike and bouncing different ideas on bass lines. The guitar work was solely myself and I have to say I enjoyed tracking this tune. When it came to mixing the project, I wanted to keep an old school analog approach to my tracks. I use a lot of the Neve 1073 preamp, into a Slate VMR console emulation (Neve), then into a Blue 1176, then to a SSL 4000G EQ. I use that chain on most every track and on guitars and vocals, I like to use a Distressor just to add depth and level on the top. When mixing, I like to approach the mix window like I would an actual console. I use VU meters recording and during playback, I listen for that sweet spot normally in-between -7 to -5db.

Overall I am satisfied with the outcome of the track. Over the next few days, I may try and tweak my mix a tad in the drums, and vocal sections. I feel as though my vocal processing could be a little tighter and bring in reverb wideness a touch.
